Are You Curious to Know What “Staying at Home” Looks like in Another Culture?
During these culturally strained times as the coronavirus continues to take over, it is important now more than ever to stay connected to one another exactly as we are: as humans. Despite these hardships, we will not let this deter us from staying connected as well as building lasting relationships. That is why the Long Beach Qingdao Association has made it our mission to remain linked to our friends in Qingdao as well as throughout China. We are happy to announce our first Digital Pen Pal Program between students of the greater Long Beach area of California and students of the greater Qingdao area of China. Not only will this cultural exchange program be 100% digital, it also gives students the opportunity to receive scholarships!
When
The program will take place from May 2020 to August 2020. Though it is a pen pal program, it is not limited to just writing: if you are an artist, we will match you up with another artist! If you like to take pictures, make videos, write or more then you will be partnered with someone who reflects similar interests. That’s the beauty of this program — we encourage accepted participants to communicate through whatever creative medium they’d like!
Scholarship Opportunities
There is a scholarship to be awarded, up to $1,000 per student, and will be awarded to those who submit a project at the end of the program that best reflects their time during the program, at the discretion of a panel from the Long Beach Qingdao Association. The scholarships will be awarded at a celebration in September 2020 to honor chosen participants as well as give them the space to showcase their projects.
In order to qualify being accepted into the program, a participant should be graduating no sooner than December 2020. Space is limited and acceptance is highly competitive, so only those who exhibit a strong resonation with this program in this application will be considered.
Apply to the Digital Pen Pal Program today to:
- Virtually connect with other
college students in China - Have the opportunity to win
up to $1,000 in scholarship
money!
